History

Full use is made of our fantastic school site in the study of History at Plymouth College Preparatory School.

In the Millfields, we are based in the old Royal Naval Hospital buildings, dating back to the 1760s; so we don’t have to look very hard to find historical evidence. There are examples of beautiful Victorian architecture in our school chapel; bomb damage to our school buildings from enemy air raids during World War Two; as well as a Victorian post box, one of the oldest in Europe. You can see why History is such an important part of our school curriculum. We learn History chronologically, gradually building up a timeline of events and people - from the Romans through to the Saxons and Vikings, to the Tudors and Victorians and on into the Twentieth Century. We organise many school trips within our historical city and the surrounding countryside. Outside visitors come into school regularly to enhance and reinforce our areas of study.
