Spanish

Spoken by over 400,000 speakers across the world, Spanish is a hugely important and exciting language.

Many pupils do not get the chance to learn this subject until at least Year 7 or 8 but, at Plymouth College, Prep pupils are able to sample and embrace this vibrant language and culture in Years 5 and 6.

Pupils receive all one lesson per week taught by a specialist teacher (Abi Potter, BSc Econ. Hons. PGCE). The emphasis is on speaking and listening; learning to communicate in the foreign language in real situations appropriate to the needs and interests of younger pupils. Reading and writing exercises are also gradually introduced to reinforce oral work.

In addition to their language-based learning, children develop their knowledge of Spain and learn about Spanish lifestyles by sampling food; holding themed events and researching famous people and events.
