At A Level, we follow the Eduqas Drama and Theatre Studies syllabus. This involves both practical work (acting, directing, design) and theory (studying the work of significant theatre practitioners; studying and performing play texts; devising a piece of theatre for performance and seeing a wide range of plays).

We work in The Michael Ball Drama Studio, which has been fitted out as a mini-theatre with lights, seating and sound. For exam work, both the Drama Studio and the Meade King Hall provide the space and technical facilities suitable for this subject. In addition to studying play scripts, students are encouraged to become actors, designers and directors.

Students are expected to see live performances throughout the course to enhance their appreciation and understanding of the play as a form of entertainment, education and to inspire their own creativity. The Theatre Royal offers both commercial and experimental theatre 'at home', with many West End shows starting in Plymouth. Our links with the theatre are excellent and it is a fantastic resource for the students. Trips further afield have included Cornwall, Exeter, Torquay, London, Cheltenham and Bristol. Workshops from visiting theatre companies also provide students with the chance to experience the world of theatre outside the classroom.
