French

Bienvenue!

We believe it is important to immerse children in the French culture and language by exploring all aspects of life. This may include singing; celebrating the influence of festivals; making food, like crêpes; sharing stories and role play. We encourage a high standard of French by using the language in a variety of stimulating ways.

French is taught from Year 3 to 6 as part of the curriculum and the lesson lasts 35 minutes. Year 3 pupils have one lesson per week and Year 4, 5 and 6 have two.

A selection of bespoke materials are utilised, alongside resources such as ‘Tout le Monde’ levels 1 to 4. Oral, listening and written skills will be assessed throughout the year and homework is set for Years 5 and 6.

Year 6 have the opportunity to go to France for a week. In addition to exploring the local markets and tasting the delicacies of the region, we provide a programme of educational visits. This includes a trip to Mont Saint Michel and the D-day beaches, which provides the pupils with opportunities to experience the French way of life and consolidate the history curriculum.
