OPM Cricket

OPM Cricket is a social non-league side open to all OPMs. If you are interested in playing, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Chris Vincent, on: 07866616956.

The team have had a good season and a short match report on each game is included below for your information:

MONDAY 29TH JULY - OPMS WON BY 5 WICKETS

This was a great match to kick start the week. Some players had travelled over 200 miles to play in what turned out to be a 1990s Plymouth Cricket Club reunion. It was played as it should be: competitive, yet maintaining the respect and spirit the week is all about - a strong OPMs side just managing to get home, when the match was in the balance for most of the afternoon.

TUESDAY 30TH JULY - OPMS WON BY 18 RUNS

This match had more twists than a tornado! OPMs batted sensibly, using all their players to set a respectable target. Yelverton were on course for a comfortable victory when Jack Brazier ripped out Yelverton’s middle order.

WEDNESDAY 31ST JULY - MATCH ABANDONED

This annual fixture is always close with 4 of the last 5 years coming down to the final over. It always has its individual battles; unfortunately, despite the captains doing their upmost to get a result, the rain lashed down with the players taking refreshments for many hours at the bar.

THURSDAY 1ST AUGUST - PHILANTHROPISTS WON BY 6 WICKETS

On paper, OPMs had a strong team but, with the ball moving sharply off the pitch, Ellard and Ward made mincemeat out of their top and middle order. In fact, OPMs recovered from 23-8 to at least set a three figure target. Philanthropists were never going to throw this much awaited (and deserved) victory away and batted stoically to the end.
