Our ambition at Plymouth College is to Educate, Enrich and Empower our pupils at all ages.

We educate our pupils in a happy, warm and friendly environment in which pupils are able to grow and flourish. Our curriculum is ambitious and challenging curriculum, focusing on encouraging creativity, instilling a love of learning and embedding understanding and skills rather than just basic knowledge. We are able to do this owing to our small class sizes, enabling our expert, specialist teachers to really know each and every child as an individual and to offer them the tailored, bespoke education they need.

The transition from her former primary school has been made seamless by everyone at
Plymouth College Prep.

We simply do not allow any child to be lost, left behind, unsupported or unchallenged. This is further enhanced by our fantastic facilities, including specialist classrooms focussing on Science, Design Technology, Art, Food Technology and our excellent Sports facilities.

Our education aims to provide a real preparation for the next stage in pupils’ lives, with a seamless transition to our senior school.  Prep School pupils will be engaged by access to excellent senior school academic and sport provision. Our emphasis is on providing an education that focuses on the holistic development of pupils.

Through a wonderfully diverse and challenging programme of co-curricular activities, visits, day and residential trips and sporting and other activities, supported and enhanced by fabulous pastoral and wellbeing support, we aim to provide a truly enriching experience, giving pupils confidence to explore new experiences and discover their individual talents.

Pupils of all ages are empowered to become young leaders through the many opportunities, from our prefect system to music and drama performances to outdoor pursuits.

Meet The Prep Head

Mr Huw Thomas

The Governors and Head, Jo Hayward, are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Huw Thomas to the post of Head of Prep School at Plymouth College from September 2022.
Mr Thomas is currently Director of Operations & Co-Curricular
at Sherborne Prep School, where he has been employed since 2016.  Mr Thomas brings with him a wealth of experience, having also been Housemaster and Director of Rugby at Glenalmond College, Perth and Assistant Master at Blundell’s School.

' I am truly thrilled about the prospect of joining the Plymouth College family in September. There is a striking sense of warmth and community within both the Prep School and the College that is evident from
the moment you set foot on the campus. Spending time with the children during the process was an absolute joy and I can't wait to join the team and take on the leadership of the Prep from September. There are some hugely exciting plans in place for the continued development of the site and the growing connectivity
across the whole age range, which mark this out as an exciting time for the School. I hope to bring a great deal of energy, personality and a real willingness to enhance the culture and environment at the Prep School - so that the pupils in our care continue to flourish and reach their potential. '
