Welcome to Plymouth College Boarding

Plymouth College replicates the best qualities of family life in the boarding house. We endeavour to create a close-knit community where life-long friendships are formed. The school is warm and welcoming; the pupils are happy and absorbed in their work and play and enjoy the opportunities that they simply would not have elsewhere. We often hear students, within days of starting at the school, saying that the boarding house feels like a second home.

The Plymouth College boarding experience is both stimulating and enriching. Investment in boarding facilities by the school has resulted in an excellent standard of accommodation. Leisure and study areas create both a sense of community and growth in independence, as pupils progress from childhood to adulthood in a wonderfully caring environment.

PMC is a real home to its boarding students and they feel part of that family.

Introducing the Boarding Housemaster

Lee Ilott

Lee is Head of Boarding and Housemaster of Colson House. He is a Teacher of PE, English and Games in the senior school and has been a Housemaster for 10 years. He has worked in a variety of boarding schools from the Isles of Man and Wight and in Hertfordshire. Nikki, his wife, is a Teacher of English and they have three children; Charlie, Lotti and Holly, along with their Black Labrador, Buster.

Mannamead House Parent - Beth Field

Beth Field joined Plymouth College in September 2018 as Head of Chemistry and as a resident boarding tutor. In 2019, she was appointed House Parent for Mannamead House and finds it a real privilege to create a safe and welcoming home for our female boarders whilst they're away from family.

She and her husband moved to Plymouth to pursue their love of all things nautical and they've never looked back. In 2020, they welcomed baby Rupert to their family and he is loving growing up in our fantastic community of boarders. The whole family, including their dog Bridget, live in Mannamead House all year round.

Beth is also involved in the musical life of school. In her spare time, she enjoys baking and being creative with some sewing or knitting.

Both sets of Boarding House Parents continue to foster a family atmosphere and build on the strong sense of community within the boarding houses.

Finalists for the Independent School of the Year Awards for International Student Experience!

They are very happy at Plymouth and it has also been a real benefit for them to interact with children from so many countries and backgrounds.

We are hugely proud that Plymouth College boarding has been recognised as part of the Independent Schools of the Year shortlist under the International Student Experience category.  The whole community, both staff and students make significant efforts to welcome students from all around the world into our community here at Plymouth College. The learning about and celebration of different cultures within our community is a very important part of Plymouth College boarding and the diversity that we foster here.
