The Drake Society
The Drake Society is named after Sir Francis Drake, entrepreneur, adventurer, profiteer and one time Mayor of Plymouth.
It is the society of the Humanities and is jointly run by the Departments of Economics, Geography, Philosophy, History and Politics. The Society encourages debate amongst invited students on areas of current affairs that encompass aspects of the various Humanity subjects.
Students and staff meet at lunchtimes to enjoy rigorous debate on topics ranging from ‘aid versus trade’ to the tensions in the Middle East. Through analysis, evaluation, questioning and challenging we hope to resolve at least some of the world’s problems.
