A child’s early experiences are vital for their future development. Plymouth College’s Pre-school provides the ideal environment for your child, set with Plymouth’s leading independent school. Our Pre-school accepts children from the age of 2, if their 3rd birthday is during their first term.
Our Pre-school operates between the hours of 8am through to 6pm every weekday, with a Holiday Club operating in the school holidays. The Plymouth College Pre-school is a Plymouth City Council Early Learning Provider and so three and four year olds can claim up to 15 hours of free childcare per week.
Our children’s days are full of activities that are not only a lot of fun but extremely enriching. Led by qualified teachers, our pre-school team follow the seven areas of learning:
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
The children have class rules right from the start and are taught skills such as staying safe, being kind to each other and sharing. Much of the learning is done through play and games but even at this young age we offer specialist teaching in Music and PE.
As well as an indoor space with areas for play and learning, we have an outdoor classroom where Pre-school can start to understand how the world works, using self-selected resources to create dens and build water systems. We have fantastic sports facilities and the children sit down for a cooked lunch in the school dining room every day.
From day one our youngest children are very much part of the school community. They are able to interact with older pupils on a regular basis, developing social skills and preparing them for full-time school.
The Plymouth College Pre-school is not just excellent childcare but the best possible early education for any child.

Is the Pre-school the highest quality and best value childcare available?
Plymouth College Pre-school is exceptional value for money offering fully inclusive childcare from 8.00am until 6.00pm every day. There is no rushing around, leaving work early, to pick up your children as all the hours are inclusive with no “fines” for picking up children anytime up to 6.00pm.
Because Plymouth College accept Early Learning Funding the actual cost you pay can appear a little confusing. To help with this we have laid out the fees below based on the number of days per week your child will attend the nursery.
Number of Days
Up to 2 ½ days
Kindergarten is free but we charge for lunch at £4 per day. So the total charge is £8 for the two lunches
The first 2½ only cost £8 as above and a further half day charge at £40 (including lunch) total cost £48
The first three days cost £48 add an extra day at £50 (including lunch). Total cost £98 for the 4 days.
Again simply adding a full day fee making £148 for a whole week.
These fees include Early Education Funding (EEF), which is availble for the term after your child turns three.
The Kindergarten operates for 50 hours a week and so a full week costing only £148 means you are effectively only paying £2.96 per hour for childcare, including lunches!
Plymouth College Pre-school is part of Plymouth College Prep School (a registered charity) and as such is able to operate at lower costs, due to having no shareholders to pay, and sharing costs with both the Prep and Senior Schools.
