Event Remembrance Day

Plymouth College Prep and Senior Schools have held Remembrance Services.

The Prep School service, held in the school’s chapel, was a mix of hymns, music, prayers and readings.  Led by Prep Headmaster, Chris Gatherer, pupils performed a series of pieces telling the story of a soldier killed in the First World War.

After the Last Post and two minute’s silence, wreaths were laid by juniors Isabel Humphrey and Loyd Atwill, and infants Melissa Byles and James Staples, at the foot of the Memorial Board to all the nurses and doctors from the Plymouth Royal Naval Hospital who gave their lives in times of war - the chapel originally served the Royal Navy when the school site was a military hospital.  The service also remembered forces personnel, particularly family members of pupils, who are currently serving at home and overseas.  Cadets from the Senior School’s CCF attended the service.

The Senior School came together for a service of hymns and poetry readings.  Introduced by Headmaster, Jonathan Standen, Rev Lawrence Braschi from St Andrew’s Minister Church led the address and prayers.  The Headmaster read an extract from Robert Laurence Binyon’s ‘For the Fallen’, followed by the Last Post and two minute’s silence. CCF cadets read the names of Plymouth College pupils killed in 1914 and 1915.  Wreaths laid at the service will be moved to the Honours Boards in the school library, where the names of Plymouth College pupils killed in the First and Second World Wars are listed.
