Plymouth College Year 10 students have been bringing languages to life with traditional Spanish and French events held in the classroom.

El día de San Jorge is a Catalan celebration of St George´s Day.  The students learnt about the history of the knight Jorge who saved the Princess of Montblanc from being sacrificed and devoured by the dragon. As well as enjoying making bookmarks, roses and dragons, Year 10 took part in a re-enactment of the story with Spanish Assistant, Irene.

La Feria is one of the most popular festivals in Spain.  With ladies in flamenco dresses dancing sevillanas and the streets filled with rows of casetas decorated with colourful lanterns, the Feria atmosphere was recreated in the classroom.  Pupils made their own abanicos (fans) and castañuelas (castanets). The event culminated with them learning how to dance sevillanas dressed in typical Spanish clothes. The event was a farewell to Spanish Assistant, Irene.

All Year 10 students who study French took part in a very special activity with French Assistant, Paméla Vachon. She helped them to recreate a typical Quebec-style campfire with music, marshmallows and French Canadian songs. The event was also a chance to say goodbye to Paméla.
