David Woodgate, Plymouth College Alumnus, has been unanimously elected as the new Chairman of Governors.
School governors are people who want to make a positive contribution to children’s education. Governors are one of the largest volunteer forces in the country and have an important part to play in raising school standards. The role of the governing board is key to the effectiveness of a school.
David Woodgate is no stranger to Plymouth College’s Board of Governors. He has volunteered for a number of years, as Deputy Chair of the Full Board, the Chairman of the Prep School Board and a member of the Finance Committee.
David is currently the Chief Executive of the Independent Schools’ Bursars Association. He is also a Member of the Board of Directors of the Independent Schools Council.
David will be taking over the role from Chris Robinson, who presided as Chairman of Governors for eight years. David, commenting on his new position, said: “40 years ago this July, I left Plymouth College, thinking I would never be back! I am delighted that the Board of Governors has unanimously elected me as the next Chairman. Chris Robinson has done a great job over the last eight years, and I have a hard act to follow. I am ready for the challenge and look forward to working with all of the College staff to make sure we offer a rounded education and excellence in everything we do - which is what our parents and pupils expect of us.”
