Exam Results Exams

Plymouth College pupils are celebrating an excellent pass rate of 98.4% today with 53% of results in all qualifications at A*-B grade or equivalent.  The College is incredibly proud of these results, its staff and the achievements of all its pupils.

An outstanding achievement from Ben Gittins, who will take up his place to read Mathematics at Robinson College, Cambridge, after being awarded an exceptional 4 A*s.  Ben received extensive support through the Early Applicants programme and from the Mathematics department and the College is delighted that Ben’s passion and commitment to his subject has been rewarded.

The role of any school should be to prepare pupils for the demands of life in a busy 21st century.  Several pupils have proven that they are fully prepared in this aspect, by not only achieving at a very high level academically, but also managing to juggle many other responsibilities throughout their time at the College.  Head Girl, Laura Cosby, will study History at the University of Bristol, achieving 3 As.  Also studying History will be Netball Captain, Rebecca Billington, who achieved A*AB.  Swimming Captain, Isobel Wild, begins her career in fashion which she will study at the University of Manchester, having achieved A*A*B, fully demonstrating the diverse curriculum offer at the College.

As well as A Level results, the College is also celebrating outstanding results from its Sports Baccalaureate, a BTEC-based course, with 100% D*D*D*, equivalent to A*A*A*.  This has enabled pupil David Miller to successfully obtain a place at the University of Bath to read Sport and Social Sciences.

In addition to UK universities, the College is proud of its guidance and support in helping pupils to apply overseas.  Destinations this year include: the University of Lucerne, Switzerland; University of Rotterdam; Queens University, Charlotte, USA; Adams State University, Colorado, USA; and the University of Northern Colorado, USA.

Jonathan Standen, Headmaster says: “These results are only possible due to the holistic education provided at the College.   Maximising the potential in every pupil is a key focus and the opportunities on offer here mean pupils are fantastically well-prepared for the next step in their educational journeys, made possible by the hard work of the pupils themselves, and of course the dedication of the teaching staff both inside and outside of the classroom.  Our exceptional performance in the value-added league tables of the past few years is testament to this – we anticipate this year’s value-added will be similarly high when published in due course.”
