We are delighted to announce that Year 11 pupil, Annabel Denton, has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in October.   An incredible achievement, particularly as only one girl and one boy were eligible for GB selection, and also for coming out on top following the rigorous qualification system which only allows 24 athletes to compete worldwide.

The Youth Olympic Games are the world's largest multi-sport competition for young high-performance athletes, inspiring them to adopt the Olympic values of respect, friendship and excellence.   With 32 sports and 36 disciplines, from swimming and diving to hockey and sailing, the Modern Pentathlon events take place between the 12-16 October 2018.

The event brings together 4,000 of the world’s best young athletes between 15 and 18 years old from 206 nations, and is held every four years in its two editions, winter and summer, which take place alternately every two years.

Annabel said: “It is such a huge honour to represent Great Britain and I am so excited to have this amazing opportunity.  I’m really looking forward to being part of the GB team and experiencing the atmosphere in Buenos Aires.”

Director of Modern Pentathlon and Fencing, Rob Flack, said: “Annabel had a fantastic season and qualifying for the Youth Olympic Games is a well-earned opportunity to compete against the best youth pentathletes in the world and to experience the Olympic atmosphere, both in competition and in the athlete village.  Her focus and determination to achieve so much in the sporting arena, whilst also performing highly in the classroom, are an inspiration to her team-mates. Training has gone well over the summer and I’m really excited to see her performance in Buenos Aires.”
