Lilleshall is key tournament for SW basketball player - 16/10/09

Plymouth College pupil, Charles Connaris, 13, has been selected
to play for the U14 South West basketball team in what will be his
most important tournament to date.
The National Inter Region Tournament at Lilleshall on
24th October is jointly organised by England Basketball
and English School Basketball Association. Although not an
England trial, it will be one of the first opportunities for
England coaches to observe young players from ten regions as they
work towards selection for the U15 England development squad in
October 2010. At the end of the tournament, a short-list of
players will be commended for their performance, which although not
selection, is a good indication of who is on the coaches'
radar.
In the meantime, all the players chosen for the Lilleshall
tournament will spend the next twelve months attending monthly
sessions at an Area Performance Centre (APC). Only those
players invited to attend an APC will be eligible for England
selection.
A keen player since he was five years old, Charles already plays
for U14 Raiders and plays in an U16 summer league. He is also
a member of the Plymouth College senior basketball team.
