Plymouth College elite swimmers, David Gregory and Achieng Ajulu
Bushell, have won gold medals for Great Britain in the World
Schools' Games in Doha, Qatar.
David won the boys' 200m backstroke in a time of 2:02.20, a new
Games record. Achieng, who was recently voted one of the top
five Female African Swimmers of the Year, won the girls' 50m
breaststroke in a time of 30.73 seconds, which is only 0.5 seconds
outside the actual World Record.
The two swimmers are part of a team of 24 representing UK
schools, which includes four other swimmers from Plymouth
College. The global competition takes place every three years
and is the biggest international sporting event for schools.
Plymouth College director of swimming, Jon Rudd, said: "This is
a fantastic result for David and Achieng. The Games is the
biggest schools' event in the world and to win here is truly
outstanding. This success is another stepping stone in their
pursuit of selection to the 2012 London Olympics swimming
squad."
