Achieng given green light to represent Great Britain in 2012 Olympics - 24/4/10

The International Olympic Committee Executive Board has granted
permission for Plymouth College swimmer, Achieng Ajulu-Bushell, to
be eligible for selection to compete for Great Britain in the 2012
Olympic Games. Permission was granted after the IOC received
agreement from Kenya's National Olympic Committee and FINA.
Under IOC rules athletes wishing to change the country they
represent have to wait three years from their last national
representation before they can compete for their new country in the
Olympic Games. Achieng was a matter of days short of this
qualification after last competing for Kenya in the World
Championships last summer.
Plymouth College Director of Swimming, Jon Rudd, said: "This is
fantastic news for Achieng and the last piece of the jigsaw after
FINA granted permission for her to compete in all other
international events from 1st August this year. We
can now have a very clear focus into London 2012."
The double British breaststroke champion has already been
selected to swim for Great Britain and England in the European
Championships and Commonwealth Games respectively later this
year.
