Plymouth College beat Devon Dumplings
Published: 27 May, 2011
With the exam season started the 2011 1st XI had three
debutants, Henry Slade, Ollie Wace and Charlie Attis, for their
annual match against Devon's oldest cricket club, Devon
Dumplings.
Alex Hill most unusually won the toss and decided to bat. With
the score on 15, Pasi Mawalage was out in the third over. Will
Chapman and Matt Kidd then put on 68 in 7 overs, before Kidd played
a number of superb shots including a straight drive. On 42, Kidd
was adjudged LBW.
Alex Hill then played on and Callum Cload was bowled first ball.
What was a promising start faltered. Pavi Mawalage, as he'd
done on Saturday against Millfield, repaired the situation with
Chapman, who reached his maiden half century before being caught
for an excellent 61. Pavi then played on sweeping for 33 and Will
Dickinson also played on. Henry Slade was run out backing up when
Charlie Attis creamed, not quite, a ball back which hit the bowler
and canned onto the stumps. Attis was caught on the boundary, going
for glory. College all out 202 in 31 overs.
With a number of injuries, Alex Hill opened the bowling with
Chris Head. Hill bowled Fragley in the first over. With the
score on 23 he then bowled Exeter's overseas' player Ferrao before
having to stop bowling due to a back strain. This brought
Will Chapman into the match, who has the knack of taking wickets,
and he did not disappoint taking 3 wickets including old boy Steve
Luffman, whilst Pavi Mawalage had Harry Kamdampully caught
behind.
A rear guard stand by McPherson against Slade, Wace and Attis,
who took a wicket, all given a bowl for the 1st XI, was ended
by Pasi Mawalage before veteran John Stanyer was bowled by
Chapman.
Plymouth College 202 all out. W Chapman 61. M Kidd 42. Pavi
Mawalage 33. Devon Dumplings 180 all out. W Chapman 21-3. Plymouth
College won by 22 runs.
