Plymouth College 1st XI v Exeter School
Published: 08 July, 2011
A hot afternoon, the wicket looked like it has for the last two
years, possibly going to fly off the ridge one end and keep lowish
otherwise. Alex, as has often been the case, lost the toss and
Exeter decided to bat. They got off to a relative flier 60 off 13
overs and then it all changed. First Henry and Pavi came on and
unusually Pavi was not in the grove. So on came Will Chapman as
Henry wanted to bowl from the other end and 4th ball LBW,
second over LBW. Alex Hill replaced Henry and second over he took a
wicket and then together Alex and Will with Henry chipping in at
the end too, bowled out Exeter for 127. Will Chapman finishing with
figures of 8-1-18-4 and Alex Hill 7-2-16-3 and that from a man with
a sore back!
Batting was not going to be easy, be brave, get forward block
the straight one, wait for the bad ball and if it is in your arc
then hit it. Will Chapman played back and was bowled in
the 5th over but Pasi and Matt Kidd then put on a match
winning 86 for the second wicket. Matt Kidd scored his long awaited
first College half century including some big sixes before he was
bowled for 63. Henry Bennett almost saw the College home with
Pasi but it was Callum Cload who actually did, with Pasi ending up
41 not out and the College winning by 7 wickets in the 22nd
over.
