Pastoral Care
Preparatory School Pastoral Care
At Plymouth College Preparatory School, we care very much for individual children, and we aim to meet their needs not just in academic terms, but also pastorally.
Good manners are encouraged, as indeed are tolerance and concern for the needs of others. Children flourish in the happy yet well disciplined environment.
Senior School / Sixth Form Pastoral Care
The pastoral system at Plymouth College is designed to enhance every aspect of our pupils' personal development. Each pupil is assigned a tutor who is responsible for academic progress, discipline and personal development. From Year 9 upwards, tutor groups only contain twelve to fifteen members to ensure the highest level of care through GCSEs and A Levels. Tutors regularly liaise with the heads of year and the deputy head.
There is an extensive personal and social education programme for all years involving moral and emotional issues important to young people growing up in the modern world. This is delivered by both tutors and outside agencies when appropriate. Careers education is well covered from Year 9 upward with advice on career opportunities and degree options. Sixth formers are offered a great deal of support with university applications and interviews. Our staff keep in frequent contact with parents through parents' evenings or informal contact on individual matters. We also hold parent briefing evenings for information on GCSE and A Level options and university entrance procedures. We have a full time nurse on site who not only deals with day to day problems, but also co-ordinates vaccination programmes and First Aid courses for pupils. Our Sixth Form prefect body are also formally trained in how to support the younger pupils.
