French
The principal aim of the French Department is to develop the children's ability and confidence to use the language effectively for communication and to encourage an interest in the culture and civilisation of France.
The school has adopted 'La Jolie Ronde', a complete structured course, specifically designed for foreign language learning at primary age. The emphasis is on oral communication. Children are actively involved through listening, role-playing, games, reading and interpreting information. Only when patterns are well established are basic grammar and various other written skills introduced.
The Department makes use of visual aids and audio equipment. It also organises an annual trip to France for Year 6 pupils.
French lessons start in Year 3.
