Physical Education
The main aim of the PE Department at The Junior School is to introduce the children to as many sports and activities as possible.
- Rugby/Netball
In the autumn term, rugby and net ball are the major sports played by the older pupils. We have matches against other Junior Schools in the area at U11, U10 and U9 levels.
- Seven a Side Rugby
This is played in the spring term. The school enters 4 tournaments a year.
- Soccer
Soccer is coached from Year 2 to Year 6. School matches are played against local Junior Schools.
- Hockey
This has been introduced as an indoor and outdoor activity for both girls and boys.
- Cricket
Children are introduced to the skills of cricket at an early age. The school plays matches against other Junior Schools at U11 and U9 levels. Each year we have one or two boys selected to play cricket for Devon, who then play against other counties.
- Tennis
Children are currently taken to local tennis courts or to the astro turf at Plymouth College Senior School in the summer.
- Athletics
All the children take part in our Sports Days. They are given a chance to experience the various events during games and PE lessons. Children take part in the TSB Athletic Award Scheme.
- Swimming
The school has use of the 50m pool at Plymouth College Senior School. The Infant and Junior Departments each have annual swimming galas at the end of the summer term.
The older children have the opportunity to take rescue skills, personal survival, water polo and distance awards. The ASA Dolphin Awards for distances achieved, encourage the younger pupils. The older girls are also introduced to synchronised swimming.
- Dance
This has been introduced for all pupils beginning with the younger groups, and we are now building it up through the school.
- House Matches
House matches are played at various times throughout the year. These give pupils who have not quite reached school team level, a chance to be part of a team.
