English as an Additional Language (EAL)
We have a small number of students for whom English is an
additional language. We recognise that cultural and
linguistic diversity is a rich source for the whole school, and
that pupils' achievement is linked to a welcoming environment in
which they feel valued and confident.
These pupils receive lessons in EAL (English as an Additional
Language) from a supportive and friendly specialist teacher with
the aim of developing the four language skills of reading, writing,
listening and speaking. An adaptable and flexible approach to
teaching offers support to match the changing needs of individual
pupils, and the children are encouraged to fully integrate into
school life.
