Careers
Our aim is to stimulate interest and to facilitate decision-making by pupils at an appropriate age and at each major stage of their development.
Year 8-9
Pupils visit the Careers Library, observe video material and follow the ISCO-based ("Option Choice") course together with the Head of Department and tutors. Departmental staff introduce the concept of Citizenship through the interactive 'Real Game' programme and we discuss the implications of options. Pupils learn the first stages of personal presentations. Study skills are introduced.
Year 10
Pupils are encouraged to pursue their introduction to IT software in Year 9 such as "KUDOS" to match their academic profile and personal interests to potential careers. They attend a careers roadshow. Study skills are further developed.
Year 11
Following the ISCO Morrisby psychometric test, taken at the end of Year 10, pupils study their skills and career-profile, preparing for an interview with their tutor or members of the careers department. Before GCSEs are taken, the full report is sent to parents who have agreed to join this scheme. The ISCO-based "Study Skills" course, led by tutors, is reinforced by a plenary presentation on coping with exam stress. Parents are encouraged to take full advantage of the ISCO 'myfuturewise' website facilities.
