Spanish
Spanish is now the second most spoken language in the world.
Spanish is offered as a second modern foreign language from Year 8 with the option of continuing with it to GCSE, AS and A Level.
We are using the Español de Primero textbook in Years 8 and 9. A Spanish Club is available for Years 7 and 8, which enables Year 7 pupils to sustain Spanish until their options. At GCSE pupils follow the "Mira" course. Alongside this pupils will also use a variety of revision materials.
Sixth Form
Students follow the OCR syllabus for AS and A level. The main text book is Ánimo, but other contemporary material is used and available. We also offer a two year GCSE Ab Initio Spanish course to sixth formers as part of the extra-curricular activities programme on two evenings a week from 3.45-5 p.m.
For students opting to follow the IB course, who have little or no previous knowledge of the language, they may choose to study Ab Initio Spanish.
We also have an Assistant who works with all pupils to further improve their oral skills. This is particularly beneficial at AS, A level and IB where she will work with the students in preparation for their oral presentation topics.
Results
In 2009 the AS level pass rate was 100%, with all candidates gaining an A or B grade.
