Am I suited to this course?
Entry requirements: At least a C grade (preferably a B) in GCSE Biology or a BB in double award science. You must be prepared for hard work because there is a lot to learn!
You should be interested in the living world in general and topics such as health matters, ecology and the use of living organisms.
What will we study?
The course covers both animal and plant work. It covers the broad areas of biochemistry, biotechnology, cell biology, ecology, evolution, genetics, human health and disease, molecular biology and physiology.
What work will I do?
You will spend about a quarter to a third of your time in class on practical work. Other class and homework time may be spent reinforcing your knowledge and understanding of the topics studied.
How will my AS and A2 level grades be assessed?
For the AS level there are 3 unit tests, the first two lasting 1 hour 15 minutes, the third 1 hour.
All papers are taken in June of the Lower Sixth year. In addition to this there is an individual study coursework component.
For the assessment of the final A level grade, there are 2 further written papers and practical coursework.
