Am I suited to this course?
You should have a wide interest in sport in general and be in good health.
This A level is rapidly becoming an essential qualification for higher specialist study in both PE and sports studies. It is also an excellent foundation for many careers in the leisure, health and fitness industries.
What will we study?
The theory side of the course includes areas such as exercise and sport physiology, acquiring movement skills, anatomy and physiology, psychology of sport and contemporary and comparative studies in PE in sport.
The practical side consists of choosing TWO activities at AS Level from: athletics, combat, dance, invasion game, net/wall game, striking/fielding games, target game, gymnastics, outdoor and adventurous, swimming, safe and effective exercise.
At A2 level you must choose from ONE of the activities chosen for AS.
What work will I do?
Normally, one double lesson a week will be a practical session and in three doubles a week the theory side will be covered. There will normally be three written pieces of work set each week following the theory lessons.
How will my AS and A level grades be assessed?
For AS - 60% is theory work and 40% practical.
For A2 - 70% is theory work and 30% practical.
