HEAD OF CHEMISTRY

Applications are warmly invited for the permanent post of Head of Chemistry, to commence in September 2026.  The successful candidate will be a passionate scientist and advocate for Chemistry, able to inspire young people through deep subject knowledge, enthusiasm and an inclusive approach to teaching.  An excellent classroom practitioner, they will be ambitious to further enhance the profile of this key department and contribute to the wider interest in the Sciences across the school community.

The Sciences are exceptionally popular at Plymouth College. Our approach goes beyond securing outstanding academic results; we aim to ignite a lifelong curiosity, foster analytical thinking and encourage pupils to explore the world with a curious and enquiring mindset. Whether pupils join us at GCSE or A Level, we are committed to preparing them for success in an ever evolving STEM landscape.

As part of the school’s developing STEAM strategy, the Head of Chemistry will work closely with the Head of STEAM and colleagues across the faculty to champion interdisciplinary learning and help promote the Sciences as a dynamic and creative area of the curriculum both in and outside of the classroom.

Plymouth College offers a wide range of extra curricular activities, and all staff are expected to contribute fully to this vibrant programme through games, clubs and societies.  Prospective candidates should be willing to play an active role in the wider life of a busy boarding and day school.

TEACHING ASSISTANT (EYFS)

Plymouth College is seeking to recruit a caring, enthusiastic and engaged individual to join our team of skilled and committed Teaching Assistants at the Preparatory School. The Level 3‑qualified post holder will take a proactive role in supporting the education, well‑being and physical needs of pupils within the Early Years Foundation Stage. They will contribute to high‑quality early learning by assisting teachers with the practical organisation of class activities,
supporting play‑based provision, and working with individuals and small groups of children.  Flexibility, adaptability, empathy and a strong commitment to seeing each child as an individual will be essential for success in this role.

This post is a permanent, part‑time position of 15.5 hours per week, term‑time only (35 weeks per year). Working hours are Monday and Friday from 13:00 to 17:00, and Tuesday to Thursday from 13:00 to 15:30. The salary is based on Pay Scale Band 1 at £12.58 per hour, equivalent to approximately £24,531–£24,901 per annum (Full‑Time Equivalent).  A full and relevant Level 3 qualification is required for this role.
