Prep pupils triumph in national fencing tournament

Plymouth College Preparatory School pupils, Sam Malcolm and Abagael Black, have won the national IAPS fencing titles for U11 boys and girls respectively.

Competing against the top fencers from prep schools around the country, Abagael was seeded 4th at the start of the competition. After winning all her fights in the knock outs giving her top seed status, she went on to win 10-1 in the quarter final, 10-2 in the semis and 10-7 in the final.

Seeded 5 and losing just one fight in the prelims, Sam was up against a large group of strong fencers. Going into the final stages as the top seed he was victorious 10-1 in the quarter final, 10-9 in the semi-final and took the title 10-9 in the final.
