PLYMOUTH COLLEGE CELEBRATES OUR 2022 UPPER SIXTH LEAVERS

Plymouth College pupils are celebrating the results of their dedication and determination today as they receive their A-Level and BTEC results.

Jo Hayward, the College’s Head said:  “Results day is one that is full of emotion  for our pupils, families and staff. Having returned to formal exams this year, this group of young people have shown tremendous resilience and adaptability in recent years and are rightly proud of their achievements. Alongside their studies they have shown themselves to be a fantastic group of young people, as they have committed to all areas of school life with sport, music, charity work and  playing a valued part in the everyday life of our busy school. They have been committed to the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme, the Combined Cadet Force and mentoring schemes. Thanks must also go to  our staff who have nurtured, supported and guided our pupils throughout their time at the school. We  couldn't be more proud of our leavers and look forward to hearing more of our now OPMs in future years .”

There were some notable performances by a number of pupils (in fact too many to mention all by name). This year’s results also included outstanding performances from a record number of pupils completing their Extended Project Qualification, with a significant number achieving the top A* grade. Topics this year included nuclear science, body positivity and the current situation in Myanmar.

Daniel Coles achieved three A* grades, as well as an A* in an EPQ, balancing his commitment to school in music, as Captain of the First XV rugby team and Duke of Edinburgh and will read Medicine at University College London. Megan Shorey and Lex Irish also achieved three A* grades and A* grades in their EPQ and will read Geography and Economics respectively at Durham University. Also joining Lex and Megan at Durham will be Jack Murphy who plans to read Archaeology after achieving A*A*A and an A in his EPQ. Ben Abbott will study Mechanical Engineering at Sheffield after achieving A*A*A, as well as A* in his EPQ.  Jonathan Ffoulkes will move on to read Business Management at Southampton after achieving A*A*A with an A* in EPQ. Further notable performances were Bea Varley and Thomas Wynne, who move on to International Relations at Plymouth and Nuclear Engineering at Imperial College respectively. The achievements of our pupils are too numerous to mention all and all are testament to their true grit and dedication and are truly representative of the Plymouth College principles.

We are also proud to say that a number of our leavers will commence their studies in the autumn in the United States, having successfully navigated their way through the application process. Rocky Dutta who managed his Head Boy duties and exemplary contribution to all elements of school life with four A-Levels (achieving A*A*A*A) and will attend the prestigious Ivy league college, Dartmouth in the autumn.

The Sports Baccalaureate Programme has also had another successful year. The course is a Level 3 Extended Diploma BTEC-based course. Notable performances include Thomas Trebilcock who will study Sport Science at Swansea and Lucy Hall who will pursue nursing at the University of Exeter. Destinations and courses for our Sports Baccalaureate pupils are diverse - ranging from Sports Rehabilitation at University of West England to Sports Performance at the University of Bath.

Plymouth College also continues to enable sportsmen and women to achieve their goals academically. Brandon Rumball and Sophie de Groot both take up their places in Loughborough reading Physics and Natural Sciences respectively. Numerous members of our school community compete internationally in their chosen sports. Of particular note this year is Aimee Canny who secured her place at the University of Virginia to take part in their swim programme. Aimee balanced her studies alongside representing South Africa superbly this summer at the Commonwealth Games.

As ever the destinations and courses of our class of 2022 are a true testament to the broad range of talents and interests of our leavers. Pupils will be studying at institutions across the country, including Loughborough, Nottingham, Bristol and University of Arts London, reading subjects as diverse as Media Production, Environmental Sciences, Music and Criminology. Our mission at Plymouth College is to educate, enrich and empower every one of our pupils, where they benefit from a bespoke education that delivers excellence both in and out of the classroom.  We are immensely proud of all our pupils this year and wish them well and look forward to hearing about the next chapter in their lives.
