Pastoral & Wellbeing Support

From their earliest years, we encourage pupils to develop genuine self-confidence by providing an empowering and enriching environment. Our small class sizes and specialist staff ensure that each child is supported to explore new opportunities, take risks and unlock their full potential in a setting where they feel happy and secure.

A Close-Knit Community

From the first moment they walk through our doors, every pupil becomes an integral and cherished part of our school community. We firmly believe that fostering a strong sense of belonging is paramount to a child’s wellbeing and overall development. Younger children have numerous opportunities to regularly interact with older pupils, whether during lively assemblies, shared break times, or exciting whole-school events.

These daily connections are not merely incidental; they are carefully nurtured to cultivate an atmosphere of respect, understanding and a genuine sense of community. This supportive and inclusive environment, where every individual feels valued and heard, forms the bedrock of our pastoral care, allowing pupils to flourish both socially and academically, knowing they are part of a caring and interconnected family.

Prioritising Pupil Wellbeing

The wellbeing of our pupils is at the heart of everything we do; it is the foundation upon which all learning and personal growth are built. All pupils actively engage in a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education curriculum, thoughtfully designed to nurture their emotional and social development. Younger children benefit greatly from interactive assemblies and dedicated class teacher-led sessions that introduce key concepts in an age-appropriate manner.

As they progress, pupils in Years 5 and 6 receive more specialised instruction through dedicated lessons and valuable tutor time. This tailored programme does more than simply impart knowledge; it equips pupils with the essential life skills, emotional literacy and resilience necessary to navigate the complexities of the world around them. Our aim is to ensure they emerge as confident, well-rounded individuals, fully prepared to thrive in their future endeavours and contribute positively to society.

Tailored Pastoral Care

We are deeply committed to providing tailored pastoral care, understanding that each child’s journey is unique. Every pupil is attentively supported by a dedicated class teacher who serves as their primary point of contact and support. For our older pupils in Years 5 and 6, this role is undertaken by a specialist form tutor, who provides guidance appropriate to their developing maturity and independence.

Each child benefits from the support and expertise of their Head of Key Stage, ensuring a comprehensive network of care. This highly personalised approach guarantees that every child receives the specific guidance, encouragement and understanding they require to truly flourish, both academically and personally. Our intentionally small class sizes are fundamental to this philosophy, enabling our staff to build strong, meaningful relationships with each pupil. This allows for truly individualised support, proactive intervention when needed and a nurturing environment where every child feels seen, heard and empowered to succeed.

Encouraging Leadership

We actively nurture leadership skills from an early age, embedding opportunities throughout the school experience. Whether it’s captaining a sports team, taking initiative during outdoor adventurous activities, leading a section in music ensembles, taking a principal role in drama productions, or contributing to our vibrant House system, pupils are consistently encouraged to step forward.

All pupils are proudly assigned to one of our four houses, fostering a wonderful sense of camaraderie as they participate enthusiastically in a variety of house competitions and events. These include the much-anticipated annual Sports Day, where they learn to collaborate, motivate and compete constructively with peers of all ages. For our older pupils, the esteemed role of prefect represents a significant milestone. This position acknowledges their confidence and heightened sense of responsibility, providing them with practical leadership experience and valuable skills as they prepare for the transition to Senior School, ready to embrace new challenges.
