Shaping Futures at Plymouth College
Our Senior School provides a vibrant and supportive environment where pupils aged 11 to 16 embark on a significant phase of their educational and personal development. We are dedicated to fostering intellectual curiosity, academic excellence and strong personal values.
Across these formative years, pupils are encouraged to explore a wide array of subjects, develop new skills through diverse co-curricular activities and prepare thoughtfully for their future pathways. We aim to nurture well-rounded individuals, ready to contribute positively to the world, supported by dedicated staff and a strong community ethos that underpins every aspect of Senior School life.

Senior Curriculum
Our Senior Curriculum is thoughtfully structured to provide both breadth and depth from Year 7 through to Year 11. In Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9), pupils explore a wide range of subjects, with gentle academic streaming introduced after an initial settling period, allowing for tailored support.
As they progress to Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), studies become more focused towards GCSE and IGCSE examinations, with a core curriculum complemented by diverse optional subjects. Small class sizes ensure personalised attention and we also offer a dedicated pre-Sixth Form course for international pupils, ensuring a robust academic foundation for all.

Senior School Subjects
We offer a diverse array of academic disciplines offered within our Senior Curriculum, primarily focusing on Key Stage 3 and GCSE options. Each subject is designed to foster deep understanding, critical thinking and intellectual curiosity.
By exploring the detailed information available for each course, pupils and parents can gain insight into course content, assessment methods and how these subjects contribute to a well-rounded education. This allows pupils to make informed choices, tailor their learning journey effectively and build a strong academic foundation for future success.

Co-Curricular
Beyond academics, our extensive co-curricular programme offers pupils countless opportunities for growth, teamwork and enjoyment. Whether pursuing The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, engaging in adventurous Outdoor Education challenges like Ten Tors or the River Dart Source to Sea, or expressing creativity through our vibrant Music, Drama, Art and Design Technology offerings, there is something to ignite every interest.
The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) also provides a unique platform for developing leadership and self-reliance. These activities are integral to a balanced education, helping pupils discover new talents and build essential life skills in a supportive setting.

Transition to Sixth Form
The move from Year 11 into Sixth Form is a significant and exciting step and we provide extensive support to ensure a smooth progression. Our guidance process, including Morrisby profiling and close consultation with senior staff, helps pupils make informed A-Level choices that align with their strengths and future aspirations.
We focus on developing the independent study skills and intellectual maturity necessary for advanced academic work. The transition also brings opportunities for leadership and greater responsibility, preparing pupils for the dynamic environment and specialised study that define our Sixth Form experience and pathways beyond.
