
Chris Gatherer, 49, has been appointed Headmaster of Plymouth College Junior School. He has been Acting Headmaster since October 2007 and was Deputy Head for ten years.
Born in Cheshire and educated at school in Reading and Keele University, Chris's first teaching post was at Sherborne School. He joined Plymouth College in 1982 as an English teacher and moved to the Junior School to take up the post of Deputy Head in 1997. In his spare time Chris enjoys mountain walking, drama and plays football and badminton.
One of his first tasks as Headmaster was to successfully guide the school through its recent Inspection.
"I am really looking forward to leading the school at such an exciting time";, said Chris. "We received some very positive comments in the Inspection report, which revealed a strong school for us to build on in the coming years.
"I am always very proud of the achievements of our children, whether it's in the classroom, on the sports field or on the stage. It is very rewarding being part of such a happy community and we take full advantage of being on such a magnificent site.";
Chairman of Junior School Governors, David Luke, said: "Governors, staff, parents and pupils are delighted that Chris has accepted the post of Headmaster. He has been a respected and well-liked member of the Junior School staff for more than ten years and we look forward to seeing the school go from strength to strength under his leadership."
