Historian, Steve Manning, became and ARP Warden and an American GI for the day to help bring World War II to life for Year 6.
In the morning his ARP Warden character shared with them the ups and downs of being in Plymouth during the blitz. In the afternoon, American GI ‘Chuck’ chatted about being stationed in England and preparing for the D-Day Landings.
Steve also brought along postcards and letters sent between friends, families, colleagues and neighbours during that time.
Part of the Year 6 history studies on World War II, the day was good preparation for the children’s visit to Normandy in June, which will coincide with the D-Day anniversary.
