Mask-making, quizzes and singing were just some of the fun activities undertaken by Year 6 when the Plymouth College German department hosted a Karneval day at Plymouth College Preparatory School.
Dressed in carnival costumes, the children celebrated the German festival with a mixture of learning and fun activities. As well as mask-making for a carnival-procession finale, the children got to grips with the language through learning traditional songs and taking part in a quiz.
Head of German, Richard Robinson, said: "It was a really fun day and a great way for the Year 6 pupils to be introduced to Germany and its language. The teachers also got into the spirit of Karneval by dressing up and there were lots of prizes for best efforts and contributions to the celebration of this historical mid-winter festival. As is also a Karneval tradition, many sweets were showered on the procession!"
