Despite all the hard work of the groundsmen and all the other Plymouth College staff, the match between MCC and Plymouth College came to a very early and damp conclusion for the third year running - the annual match against Plymouth College is one of a series played by MCC on their tour of Devon and Cornwall.

In the "spirit of cricket", Nick Folland, MCC Captain for the day, did his very best to ensure some cricket was played but every time the players took to the field the rain began to fall. Nevertheless in the five overs possible before lunch MCC's and Heathcoat's Liam Lewis batted superbly, scoring freely straight and in the mid wicket region. Ollie Mulberry, however, produced the "champagne moment" with a stunning direct hit from deep fine leg, demolishing the stumps and running out one of MCC's openers.

After lunch, and again to try and play cricket, the original match was abandoned and a T20 match started. MCC, despite losing a wicket caught behind Callum Cload off Ollie Mulberry in the first over, raced along with former Torquay and Devon player Andy Hele playing some wonderful shots, including one special drive backward of square and a six over extra cover.

Alex Hill once more showed Plymouth College's excellence in the field knocking the stumps over from extra cover and effecting a run out. The heavens then opened and the match and day were abandoned.

Our thanks to everyone on the day, including the groundsmen, the umpires who did their best to get cricket played and to the catering staff for the magnificent spread and barbecue.
