Pierce Widdecombe, aged 10, has been selected for the U10 Devon Cricket team. A member of the school cricket team and Yelverton Cricket Club, the Year 5 Preparatory School pupil was chosen because of his strong batting skills.
The county team played their first match against Oxfordshire last week and have Gwent in their sights for their next match.
"It is really nice to be chosen to play for Devon", said Pierce. "I played one match for them last season and really enjoyed it so it is great to be a proper member of the team this year."
A keen sportsman, Pierce also plays tennis.
