Sammy Cotton, 12, has seen six months of show jumping training and competing pay off with a win at the prestigious Royal Cornwall Show.
The Plymouth College Year 7 pupil jumped a 1.2m track in the Show's only junior class, which saw her competing against a number of 16 year olds. Riding two ponies, Sammy went clear on both into a jump-off against five other ponies. Her first pony, Tilly, had two poles down after an early draw and came 7th. However, her second pony, Rasher, had the only double clear round and won.
In May, Sammy competed in her first county show, Bath & West, where she came 3rd and 4th in a big junior class. In July she will compete in a 1.35m class at the Wales & West Show. Her aim is to qualify for the Pony Show Jumper of the Year class at Horse of the Year Show.
