Platform, a Plymouth College Young Enterprise company, have won the Plymouth final of the Young Enterprise competition. This is the third time in five years that a Plymouth College team have taken the title.
The product, 'Railtrails', is a book of walks designed to support patronage on the rural branch lines of First Great Western. The team members researched, designed and published the book themselves and have had 2000 copies printed. To date the book can be purchased on Amazon, both branches of Waterstones in Plymouth and Plymouth Tourist Information.
Platform have agreed an 'in principle' deal with Tormark to distribute the book to National Trust properties and branches of Asda and Tesco around Devon and Cornwall. The team are also working on a German version of the book.
The trophies won at the Plymouth event were:
Best enterprise
Best presentation
Best ICT
Best Spring Trade Fair Perfomance
Best overall company in Plymouth.
Platform have been invited by David Barlby, CEO Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and Industry, to repeat their presentation at his organisation's next meeting.
