Plymouth College Young Enterprise company, Platform, has come second in the South West stage of the competition.
The company, which won the Plymouth and Devon rounds of Young Enterprise, has produced a book of walks from branch line train stations called RailTrails. The book has the support of First Great Western as well as actor and travel documentarian, Michael Palin. Platform has sold 2,000 copies via 196 retailers including Amazon and both branches of Waterstones in Plymouth.
Although Platform just missed out on the top spot, the group of 13 Lower Sixth pupils won Best Company Report and Best Financial Management. Six other teams competed in the final, which was held at Bristol University and involved presentations and interviews. The winner was a school from Cheltenham.
"The opportunity to take part in competitions such as Young Enterprise is invaluable", said Platform Managing Director, Harry Cobbold. "It's taught the whole team so many things about how to succeed in business. It's the things like securing those massive orders that really makes all the hard work worth it. The most valuable thing we take from the experience though is a profitable and expandable business, which we all look forward to growing in the future."
