It comes as no surprise that the London 2012 Olympics featured heavily in the start of term assembly.

Headmaster, Dr Simon Wormleighton, started his address by congratulating the four Olympians who he said were an inspiration not only to the whole school community but to a generation of young people around the world.  He talked about how they had demonstrated that with hard work and commitment dreams can be achieved whatever a person's ambition or talent.

This brought Dr Wormleighton onto this summer's exams results, which he reported continued to be strong and again showed how Plymouth College pupils embrace the ethos of doing the very best they can.

After a standing ovation for the Olympians, the Headmaster announced the Colours' Awards, which included Olympic medallists Ruta Meilutyte and Tom Daley.

This year's House Captains were then presented with their badges followed by the 'gowning' of the Senior Prefects. Last to receive their gowns were Heads of School Harry Cobbold and Katie Davies-Gregory.

"The events of this summer have been truly remarkable", said Plymouth College Headmaster, Dr Simon Wormleighton.  "Bringing the whole school community together to celebrate in this way is very much what Plymouth College is all about."
