
Plymouth College Director of Swimming, Jon Rudd, was named as Coach of the Year at the 49th British Swimming Coaches Association Awards Dinner this week.
Jon, who is also the Head Coach of Plymouth Leander Swimming, received the award primarily for coaching 15 year-old sensation Ruta Meilutyte to gold at this summer's London Olympic Games. Ruta was to become the 2012 Olympic 100m Breaststroke champion breaking the European Record en route. The award was presented by Dutch Coach and Special Guest Jaco Verhaeren and Speedo representative Laura Rattray.
Jon's Deputy Director of Swimming at Plymouth College, Lindsay Dunn, who is additionally the Assistant Head Coach at Plymouth Leander, was presented with a Certificate of Achievement by the BSCA as part of her contribution to Ruta's success. As well as assisting Jon on the pool deck, Lindsay takes the lead on Strength & Conditioning and in coordinating all of the Sports Science & Medicine services in the Plymouth College/Plymouth Leander swimming programme.
