Budding tennis player and Plymouth College Preparatory School pupil, Hazel Vernon, 9, has taken part in a special coaching session with British no. 1, Laura Robson.
Hazel travelled to The National Tennis Centre at Roehampton, London, where she had an hour's coaching with two of Great Britain's current national team coaches. This was followed by a session with Laura, who is an Olympic gold medallist and has a world ranking of 35. Laura helped Hazel with her hitting and they paired up as doubles partners for two short games.
Hazel trains approximately 10 hours a week at the Virgin Active Devonshire in Plymouth. She represented Devon earlier this year in an inter-county match.
"Laura Robson has always been Hazel's idol", said Hazel's dad, David Vernon. "Not only are they both 'Lefties' but they also share a favourite colour - Purple….most important!
"Hazel had an amazing day and will remember it for a very long time. Her dream is to be a top player so in ten years' time Laura had better watch out!"
