Plymouth College modern pentathlon scholars Ella Ellis, 15, Catherine Bishop, 14, and Coral Hays, 15, have earned a fantastic team achievement by returning from the British Schools' Biathlon Championships with the U15 girls' title.

The competition took place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London and included swimming at the Olympic 2012 swimming pool, the London Aquatic Centre. The girls' win in the swim/run event was all the more impressive considering that as pentathletes, they train in five disciplines whereas the majority of the other competitors just swim and run. Their individual placings were Coral 17th, Ella 21st and Catherine 35th.

In the U16 girls' category Kerenza Bryson finished 8th overall while Kerrie Johnson finished 31st after beating her personal best time by an incredible 11 secs in the swim. It was a personal triumph for Oliver Smart whose 2nd place overall in the U11 boys included a 3rd place in the run and 6th place in the swim. This was followed by Edward Smart who came 11th in the U13 category. George Spencer finished 18th in the U14s and Oliver Lord was 49th in the U15 category. Not to be outdone, Edward Clark finished off with a 25 sec personal best time for the swim finishing 39th in the U16 boys.

Modern Pentathlon coach, Josh Lake, said: "It was an inspirational experience for the pentathletes to compete at the Olympic Park, particularly in the pool. We saw some excellent individual performances and a fantastic team result for the U15 girls. The event was great preparation leading into the rest of the season."
