Plymouth College elite swimmer, Sam Straughan aged 15, has broken the British Junior 100m individual medley record. This is the third British record Sam has clinched this season, after taking the Junior 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly records in November.
Swimming in the Devon County ASA Open Championships in Central Park, Sam took the record, which was previously set in 2001, in a time of 58.33.
Sam is in his second year of the highly-acclaimed Plymouth College/Plymouth Leander swimming scholarship programme. Plymouth College Director of Swimming and Plymouth Leander Head Coach, Jon Rudd, said:
“Sam is enjoying a superb season – to claim his third British record is a great achievement. This latest record is fantastic because it is by a Plymouth swimmer, who swims for a Plymouth club and it was recorded in Plymouth. It isn’t often that happens.”
