Rising star and elite swimming scholar, Sam Straughan, continues to drop British Junior Short Course records after claiming his fourth such mark in a five month period. The latest change to the records books came in the 200m IM where the Plymouth College pupil reduced Roberto Pavoni’s 2007 standard of 2:05.03 down to 2:04.78 in the last round of the Devon County ASA Championships at Tiverton.
Nine days out from his challenge at the British Championships in Sheffield, Sam will take great confidence from this achievement. Plymouth College Director of Swimming, Jon Rudd, said: “Sam was at the very beginning of his taper for this achievement so we hope that with more rest, particularly in his strength and conditioning programme, we can see some further pleasing performances when we get to Sheffield.”
Sam has already captured the 50m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly and 100m IM records this season. He is in his second year of the highly-acclaimed Plymouth College/Plymouth Leander swimming scholarship programme.
