Plymouth College U16s have had great preparation for the forth-coming National Schools Sevens Tournament at Rosslyn Park after being crowned West of England champions. Held in Taunton across three venues, 20 schools took part in the one-day tournament.
From the first game to the last, the Plymouth College squad of ten each put in quality performances. With results that included a 40-5 win over Clifton College and a 35-5 victory over Kings Taunton, Plymouth College topped their group without losing a game.
They met Bryanston in the semi-finals which they dominated from the first whistle to the last. Constant aggressive defence put pressure on their opponents throughout the game and well-timed passes and quick thinking saw Plymouth comfortably through to the final with a 40-5 win.
The final against Taunton School was a much closer game although Plymouth looked comfortable throughout. The team allowed their opposition such little time on the ball that when a mistake was made they had the ability to ship the ball into open spaces quickly and score. Eventually Plymouth College ran out 28-12 winners.
Throughout the tournament the squad provided thoroughly entertaining rugby, and moments of individual skill were complemented with patient team play. This will give confidence to the squad going into the Rosslyn Park tournament.
