FINA World Rankings
Achieng Ajulu-Bushell was to beat two world record holders in a head to head race and go straight to the top of the FINA World Senior rankings for 50m Breaststroke at the British Short Course Grand Prix. Her achievement made her Plymouth College's first Senior British Champion and, by implication, the fastest female breaststroker in the world in 2009.
International Events
At the World Championships in Italy, Emma Wilkins (right) represented Great Britain, Achieng Ajulu-Bushell represented Kenya and Christian Homer represented Trinidad & Tobago (below with Jon Rudd). This is the second biggest swimming event on the planet to the Olympic Games. Achieng was 3/10ths of a second outside of making a semi final, whilst Emma and Christian both achieved best times whilst in Rome.
At the European Youth Olympic Festival in Finland, Grant Halsall represented Great Britain to win a silver and a bronze medal, a marvellous achievement at Europan level. Grant also competed in the Island Games in Norway and won 3 gold medals and broke a British Junior Record
At the European Junior Championships in the Czech Republic, David Gregory and Calum Jarvis both faired excellently for Great Britain, both narrowly missing finals. They are still young enough to compete in this event in 2010.
