Plymouth College Preparatory School pupils Ollie Piper and Alice Avens, both aged 10, have just returned from the Endhoven Cup, a national open diving event held in Holland. Members of Plymouth diving, they were competing against some of the top age group divers in Europe.
Diving for two years, Ollie's best result was 9th place in the 3 metre event - he was competing against 40 other divers. He came 10th in the platform category (5 metres and 7 metres) and 12th in the 1 metre competition where there were 50-60 other divers. This was his sixth competition and he has previously dived 'overseas' in Dublin.
Alice has only been diving for a year but she finished in a respectable 19th place in the 3 metre event and 20th in the 1 metre event. Both categories had about 35 divers taking part. This was her fourth competition and her first abroad.
"The competition was really good fun and I shared a room with girls from other nationalities", said Alice. "I really enjoy diving and although I sometimes get scared when learning a new dive, it's a great feeling when you've had a good session and done a new dive well."
Ollie and Alice take part in their next competition at half term in Plymouth.
