Former Plymouth College pupil Rosie Greaves, 23, is taking on the challenge of a lifetime next year to raise money for charity.   Starting in December 2013, the Marjon student will row solo across the Atlantic Ocean to raise money for local charity, CHICKS.

Rosie will be taking part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, which is an unsupported race covering some 3000 miles of open sea between the Canary Islands and Barbados. Although already a keen rower, Rosie has never attempted an adventure of this scale before. She will face blisters, sleep deprivation and salt rashes as she rows for weeks on end to reach her goal.

Rosie's teammates at Calstock Rowing Club and Cotehele Quay Gig Club are all supporting her with training leading up to the event. She has also gained the support of pasty giant, Ginsters, and local business consultancy company, Voomeroon.

Rosie is still actively looking for sponsors for the expedition, which is expected to cost an estimated £70,000. She hopes to raise the same again for CHICKS, enabling 100 children to receive a free week-long respite break at one of the CHICKS retreats.

For further information about Rosie's adventure, find her on Facebook: Rosie's Row - Atlantic 2013; follow her on Twitter: RosiesRow; or contact her via Email: [email protected]  Phone: 01822 832161.
